Metallic TAKATAKATAKA at 1k rpm ??
Don't know if this is the same problem as one recently posted Re: Ticking Noise but...
From start up engine is quiet. Once half warm to warm there is kind of a ticking noise that appears at 1k rpm through to 1500 rpm. Under load (mild pulling away or hard accelleration) it is not apparent.
Pulley ? Timing chain ? The noise is more of a metallic "takatakataka" than a "tick" if that means anything.
Any comments welcome. I'll post up a sound clip. ('01 WS6 A4 and just covered 6K)

I would say one of the rockers or a lifter....and after 1500rpms you just can't hear it anymore because of other engine noises...

Re: Metallic TAKATAKATAKA at 1k rpm ??
It definately seems to go at 1500 rpm, rather than be blocked out.
Only when warm/hot and only when not under load ?
Does this still add up to a possible rocker / lifter problem ?
cheers..

easiest things first- is the oil level low?
When I put in my new comp R lifters, I was reading the info they send with the lifters, it said "lifters are supplied oil only by windage, so try not to let the engine idle for long periods of time"
So, maybe one of you lifters isn't getting enough oil. How's the oil pressure? What is done to the engine?

Oil pressure at tick-over is just under 400 (3/4). The engine is completely stock and covered just 6K miles. I'm gonna get the engine "flushed" and refill with mobil 1.

Re: Metallic TAKATAKATAKA at 1k rpm ??
Only sometimes at idle (500rpm) I hear a faint ticking.
At 1K the TAKATAKA becomes quite prominent and gets louder and faster up to 1500 then seems to go ? It's not there if the engine is under load or when cold. I'm becoming very paranoid now keep listening to the damn thing trying to find more noises !! and I do !!!!!
Whatever it is it's not right. If say I rev the engine to 3K rpm, as soon as the revs come down to 1500 rpm the noise appears, then goes as the revs drop past 1k back to idle...
With only 6K on the clock I guess it’s not even run-in yet !
