Default Could someone explain what a "short belt" is?

I did a search but got nothing. I see it alot when people are installing cams. Thanks in advance.

short belt is basically bypassing your power steering... if you're going in a straight line w/minimal steering adjustments no sense powering the p/s pump...

So a short belt is a belt (i forget the exact size) that you just put over the crank, water pump and alternator... removing the p/s pump from the equation

..a fan belt that "skips" certain components like AC compressor, PS pump, etc.

Apparaently, it produces more power for drag runs...

dont know much about this, however...

It is a belt used to bypass acessories. IE the A/C.

Surprisingly you can gain like 20hp with a short belt; that explains why pulleys are so good.

Cool, thanks everyone. Sounds sweet, but I got a daily driver. Guess ill just do underdrive pulleys, and make up that 20 hp with a solid roller.

FWIW generally when people do the short belt mod they do it right at the track. The belts on our cars are pretty easy to change, so long as you have a 15mm sock and socket wrench to push on the tensioner pulley with
