Default Need Opinions on Heads and Cams

Just starting to mod my SS and am looking at going N/A route at first to see how much power I can squeeze out of it...I am basically looking at 2 options the first one is the Livernois Motorsports Stage 3 ported heads and matching Livernois Cam....or there is also the SLP package with the AFR 225's and matching SLP cam. I am wanting to stay right around $2-$3K but if anyone else has any ideas let me know....

Your first mods should be full boltons. Cam/heads are almost pointless until you have supporting mods.

Agree'd....you need to have a good flowing motor before you can do heads and cam...basically a good intake, headers, and exhaust setup...then work on head and cam....

Damn its has been a minute since I heard of anyone buying Heads and Cams from SLP (break out the DUSTER) . I wonder if they are making any quality products these days. Livernois is some really nice **** pricy but top quality.A nice F.A.S.T set up will be a nice addition for your ride Fuel Rails.etc etc...........BB

I used some patriot stg 2 heads and made decent power with them, but you need to have full bolt ons first before you can take advantage of you heads and cam.

Did you just say livernois was pricey? Dont they have CNC 243 heads for under a grand??? I know livernois is running some specials right now, give them a ring.

Ok so if you take care of that then you need to look at your heads choice.
Stock short block right? You dont need/want AFR 225's or a stage 3 head. You are going to need to spend roughly 3k for a head to do the job though. Upgraded springs, valves and most of the time rockers are needed. A custom cam is 400. Then you need to add in some gaskets and maybe an EWP as well. 2-3k isnt going to cut it unless you go used on the parts. Plus your going to need a clutch and then a rear.

do a livernois stage 2 head, I think that would be much better suited for you and your budget

You can get a patriot cnc LS6 head which are priced pretty well. Then have someone like Patrick G spec a custom cam for you. Full gasket sets are not very expensive either.
