Default Infamous Q: Best well mannered, proven cam for LS1 stock heads

I know search, search, search, and I have done just that. what I want is peoples EXPERIENCE. I don't care what your girlfriends, brothers, cousins, aunts, car did I want to know what you thought about your own experience. Overall I want a well mannered cam that puts down the power. I make 420HP on N20 and 315hp off the bottle. My plan is to add a cam, Asp pulley, LS6 intake, push rods, springs, oil pump, and timing chain. Here is what I am sure on so far, everything else is in the air.

Intake- LS6
pulley- ASP
timing chain- double roller
oil pump- LS2

cam, push rods, and springs are all in the air.

I would also like to see a cam, push rods, springs, oil pump, timing chain, and all gaskets. I also want to add a UD Pulley to the mix but that will not be in any kit. Does any of our vendors have complete packages. I can shop it all out for about $1K but it would be nice to have one package that saved me some coin and time. I figure a package would be proven instead of matching parts which can be dangerous.

If you plan on stayin with stock heads, you'll get more power from a reverse split cam. They are designed for stock head applications.

For your basic cam swap you'll be fine with this:

cam bolt & gasket kit:
http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...id=85&catid=36

oil pump:
http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...d=151&catid=55

timing chain(re-use your stock gears):
http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...d=620&catid=53

springs & pushrods:
http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...d=172&catid=48

For the cam I'd look into a MTI reverse split & that should be everything you need. But don't forget to have a couple hundred extra just incase something comes up. Plus factor in all fluids, new plugs & wires if needed & other small service items you might want to replace while your in there.

Parts matching really isn't gonna be a issue here unless you try to stick a cam in that exceeds the lift on the PRC springs. When you start switching cams & heads is when it can get tricky if you mis-match parts.

What I like about Texas-Speed is they have EVERYTHING for me. Why would you not recommend one of their sticks. I know that shop has been proven. I'll send them an email.

Not sure if they offer a reverse split cam. I didn't see one listed & with stock heads a reverse grind is gonna benefit you more than a traditional grind. Just ask Jon if he can get you a reverse split & if he can I'm sure he will put a package together for you.

Yes it would, but that that price you might as well get a set of new heads. You can get a good pair of worked LS6 heads for $1200. It is going to cost you about $600 to have yours done then add the hardware up top and you are already there.

but wouldnt i be paying 1200, then springs, locks, etc, on top of that 1200?? Id think that by spending 800 bucks for my PNP, springs, etc and be done with it might be the choice for me anyway. Im a poor guy.

You have a few options. If I were to do it I would go with Patriot. For $1300 you get it all springs, valves, guides, etc... Plus no core charge. This is with a stock LS6 head. You then take your 241's and sellem for about $250. Hell I have already convinced myself I did not want to do this. And starting to second guess. HAHA

MTI's reverse split is the X1. IMO, I like the Tr230 better but I dont think you can go wrong with either.

IMO one of the best daily drive cams in the market........great street manners, gas mileage, low end-mid range, and with a 114lsa it will love spray and it leaves you with plenty of options if you want to add heads later down the road. Just make sure you have a good tuner

I'm in the same situation as teddy. And i cant figure out what cam i want. I was thinking about a reverse split but i thought reverse split cams didn't like nitrous as much as a traditional split?

I really like the TR230 but I think it is because of the shear numbers it put down. Jose it was cool to talk to you bro thanks. I might take the advise of the board and just run a TR224. I want a car that is slightly lopy so this might be for me.

If you run the 224 you'll have a cam that will gain even more performance from a set of mild heads later also. With the reverse split you wouldn't see as much performance after a head swap later & would probably end up changing cams.

If you go 224, you'll be happy. Great street cam. I absolutely love mine & it works great with my heads too. I'm lookin to bust into the 11's on motor after I get a rear to run decent tires on.

I really think I will sell the car before I ever do heads. This is going to be my last mod before I start working on other projects. I already have a new rear end, tranny, and a 3000 Stall so I think this cam will fit the bill. Does it have a little lope to it?

Are you wanting an off the shelf grind, or are you willing to invest in a custom ground stick?
