Gap on diamond's pro select rings???

Gap on diamond's pro select rings??? My engine building found the gap on the oil ring on my diamond select rings to be around .050 They say this is acceptable but why are most other rings around .020? Has anyone else checked this during their build up? I don't want a smokey engine.
