The benefits are old people with old cars don't want to replumb thier entire fuel system to put a better small block in thier car. You can pick up an ls based motor for pretty inexpensive without all the electronics. Throw a carb on it and drive it. SIMPLE. I don't like it myself but there are plenty of people it would work out for.

Kit cars and street rods run carburators all the time without any problems.
One of the auto mags did some dyno runs on a carburated LS1 recently and made the same power as with the injection system.

Fuel Injection allows a more hands off approach to a car, especially with the advent of the MAF sensor.
You get a more direct intake charge with a carb and matching intake manifold.
But FI has been making large strides and with some of the set ups out there sometimes run better with the FI, especially if tuning is critical.

Visual effect also. Alot of people put them in cars they put in car shows. That big chrome carburator sitting on top a polished intake look better than that high tech FI setup. Especially in the older cars. They even have a mechanical drive you can bolt to the front of a LSx motor for a distributor.

when tuned properly a carb setup will make more power. simple. being forced to use a carb style intake and the fact that you can push more through a carb are a couple advantages. it'd be ok for an all out race car that someone knew how to tune, but few people can adjust carbs properly.

Before you had to get the right sized carb and then worry about jetting on your primary and secondary. At least now we have a way to check and see if it is right.

I'm going carbed with my setup. Paid $710 complete for my 60k engine with harness and all. Sold all the electronics from my engine and ac and got $510. So i got my LS1 longblock for $200 basically. With that extra money i bought a 236/236 .651/.651 110lsa cam and patriot golds. Carbs like huge cams more than EFI does. I wouldnt go carbed if it were a distributor setup but it will run off of the map sensor, crank and cam sensor and use your stock 8 coil pack setup which is what i like. With the MSD i have head you can also tune the timing curve with the map sensor.
Also One of the coolest aspects of the carbed setup is being able to run a street scoop sticking out of your first gen bird's hood

For a track car i'd rather a carb.it's alot cheaper to make big power if you don't care about making it "streetable" No need for a laptop to tune it bring it to the track and tune it by ET. I'm planning on doing this in a foxbody carbed LS1 with a glide
