Default 241 heads...milled...power gain

nothing else done....just milled (or combined with thinner gasket).

what would the power gains be from that?

not sure of exact final chamber size...but say...

62cc

60cc

i realize if your gonna go through the hassle...get ported heads...but i'm curious.

Thats would be a good question for a engine dyno program.

Just a guess, but maybe 15hp at the flywheel?

Torque depends on the dyno. Assuming we're talking DynoJet, I wouldn't expect much more than 385~390rwtq out of that cam with a set of worked 241s.

Even 15 flywheel hp is unrealistic from a 1/4 to 1/2 point increase in the compression ratio. Don't bother wasting your time and money.

I've seen a 3% per point of compression number out there, however, on a '70s Buick engine saw a graph of around 8% per point in an internal combustion engine book.

for an engine with a higher initial C.R. first impression is there is less of an effect on the dynamic C.R. than one of those older sluggish smog engines w/ low-tech combustion chambers.

for a half point, call it 2% x 400 HP = 8 HP, not ground shaking

For every 1 point increase in compression, you will pick up 3-4% power. On a 400 rwhp engine, going from 10.0:1 to 11.0:1 will give you (theoretically) 12-16 additional rwhp

all numbers below are rough
So stock 66.6 CC = 10.37 SCR 8.22 DCR
62 CC = 10.99 SCR 8.70 DCR
60 CC = 11.25 SCR 8.92 DCR

So you're looking at a change of .88 SCR for a total theortical gain of about 10 RWHP.

I took my 241 heads off and had them ported and polished, but not milled.

Pick up a whole 7 hp. took them off and put on stock 243 heads and picked up 15 hp.

IMO it is not worth doing anything to 241 heads when 243 heads are so inexpensive and produce more power

But Good Luck on your project

^ your experience is strange. Lots of people on this board have picked up great power from professionally ported 241's...
