No Tune Dangerous?
My cam will be in very soon, and I will be waiting my turn to get some street and dyno time with a local shop. My question is this, can I do any damage driving it regularly without a tune? It would make sense that racing it might not be a great idea, but just around town say under the 3200 or so that the stall would carry it up to will I be fine? For reference the cam is 231/237 592/603 111.5 (Please understand I am not asking IF to tune, just if I will be ok for a couple weeks while I wait) Thanks.

You're going to foul out plugs / O2 sensors left and right... i'd just wait to get it tuned, unless you feel like forking out another $200 in sensors / plugs over the next few weeks...

Exactly why I asked. Is there anything short term I can do with HPTuners before I get to my dyno guy? A friend has HP and will slap some keys if I need him to.

How about after you have installed and started it.. you check the plugs and see how it idles and drives (for a short time)..
If it seem to idle ok with out loping to bad and that driveablity is ok. Plugs are not fouling or over rich, then it seem that you should be able to drive it (taking it easy ?)
But if you have problem with the idle and driveablity.. then get it to the tuner ASAP... wait and see ! then do what is needed.

That cam has approx 11 degrees of overlap @ .050. It will be miserable to drive untuned. If your friend has HPT, tell him to follow the directions in the help section to set it up in SD and start tuning the VE table. Other than that, get it towed to the dyno. You probably could drive it, but it will be miserable. It'll be gaggin on fuel in the lower RPMs.

If your friend has HPTuners AND IF AND ONLY IF he knows what he's doing (i.e. he has tuned cam'd cars), then have him get you a base line tune setup so that you can put a few miles on the new components before letting rip on the dyno.

Well this sucks. I was going to drive my car to Vengeance to get it tuned after my cam install. Its about 2 hours away. But I have heard of people driving the T-rex untuned before. My cam is no rex its a 230/232 on a 110. And you guys don't think the car would make it?
