Synthetic is a little thinner and this can happen on some stock bottom ends.I would switch to a blend.

Most engines that burn littlt to no oil will burn 1/4 to 1/2 quart of synthetic oil every 1k or so. The oil is thinner and burns easier. Wouldn't be supprised if you picked up a few oil leaks.

The LS1 engines are notorious for oil consumption but it's not going past the rings. Some people use a catch can to trap the emulsified positive crankcase ventilated gases - which contain your missing motor oil - from entering the intake. Here's where the PCV valve is located and approximately where the catch can is installed.

I run a catch can, seemingly very little consumption after that!
