This is a good cam, been around awhile now and is very similar to the Thunder 230. It makes about the same power as the TR 230 cam. It makes somewhere usually between 420-440 RWHP with stage II heads and boltons. I've haven't seen any results beyond 440 RWHP yet with this cam. Speedtek's F1 is basically the same as these also.... all 3 of these are reverse split cams, but many of the new bigger cams are traditional splits that seem to have more potential as of late.

The MTI X1 cam is stout and has a rough idle - what I would consider just barely a streetable cam. I've seen many cars with stg2 MTI heads and the X1 cam make 430-440 rwhp. There seem to be quite a few people that claim that they are getting over 450 rwhp in their daily driven street cars. Well the following is a challenge I issued in the Tx. section and you will see even after 770 views NO ONE took me up on this bet. So take what you read and hear on the internet with a grain of salt - more like a bucket.

You call that a sell? No wonder all the other sponsers sell more heads.

Please put the crack pipe down.
I will issue a challenge to those LS1/LS6 heads/cam cars that believe they make 450+ RWHP, free dyno @ MTI!
Just a few rules in this contest: 1. has to have LS1/LS6 heads and intake 2. has to be a hyd. roller cam 3. no dyno tricks (removing belts, electric water pump or open headers) 4. has to have a stock bottom end
AND dyno spikes don't count. If your car does it I pay for the dyno runs (2). If you lose you pay MTI for the 2 dyno runs $75.00 and you pay me $50.00 for wasting my time.
This challege is good till 6/30/03.

With MTI Stage 2 heads and an X1 through the TH400 on slicks I made 370rwhp and 455rwtq, ran an 11.6@117.5 almost full weight...

Figure around 30hp loss through the trans change, so I was right over 400rwhp, probably 415-420

Joe, I issued the challenge out of my own curiousity. I have seen literally hundreds of cars dynoed at MTI and not just MTI cars, but I have yet to see one car hit over 450 rwhp with a streetable, daily-driven car. I'm not sure if all these other vendors are making 450+ rwhp or if their dynos are calibrated differently. I'm sure their has to be some guys in the Houston area (population of over 3 million incl. the surrounding areas) with an LG, Cartek, etc car that makes over 450 rwhp - but I have yet to see it

I'm definatly daily driven hydro, great idle and excellent driveability, but I didn't see the X1 part till after my post, sorry. The key to my package is repeatability though. Come out our way some time and see mine on the rollers! it's pretty wild sounding! actually scary to me but I even confirmed my car on a dyno in MD cause I was a bit sceptical of my own results at one point but it repeated within 1 hp and 2 ft of tq. We are releasing this head package in CNC form along with this cam next month after 3 out of state cars repeat within 2% of what I'm getting.

Joe.

Sounds like you've got a good combo. I'd like to see how the CNC stuff works out for you.

I have the X1 with S2 heads and all bolt ons. I pulled 414 rwhp safely tuned with A4. We pulled some timing and left her alittle rich for the spray! I love this cam, the sound is bad-*** and she pulls hard all the way to 6500rpms. The lope is sweet. You can see in my sig I have 12-bolt, gears, stall, and heavy ZR-1 replicas that eat some rwhp up. I feel if I bump the timing and lean her out I could get another 15-20 rwhp. That would give me 430-440 rwhp. Not bad for A4. I`ve got the dyno sheet to prove it from MTI! David Coates pulled 445rwhp with the same combo as mine on a 6sp. That is right at 450 mark and his was tuned for 100 wet shot. His car is in GM high-performance mag this month. So there are cars getting close to that mark! This cam doesn`t hide, you can hear the power!! If you would like my dyno sheet just let me know. If you live it Houston we could meet at MTI and take you for a ride. Jayson and crew are the best! Good Luck!
