help weird stuff in motor
ok i have been battling a low oil pressure problem. on a cold start, the pressure is at 40 psi. when the car warms up it drops to 20 psi. i thought it was the o ring but when i checked it it was not pinched. ok so i dropped the oil pan and checked the pickup tube filter and it was full of stuff that looked like steel wool packed in the filter of the pick up tube. i really need help. should i pull the motor apart while its out. i just put it together. it was a brand new z06 block from valve god, tea heads, wisco pistons, and a tr230 cam. i really need help please. also when i pulled my water pump off

Doesn't sound good... My oil pressure was like that then I spun a few rod bearings. My pick up tube screen was full of metal shavings as well. I would pull the motor and look at all of your bearings. Something wasn't right...

I was talking to one of my buddies today and he described the same exact problem you're having. He said there was a kink in one of the oil pump lines, he fixed the kink and all was good. Don't know if that helps you, just thought I'd mention it.

Could some one show me where the oil pump line is?
I've seen all kinds of crazy stuff happen in these motors, everything from the oil pan not being machine properly and cutting off oil supply to the spring in the oil pumps going bad...hint hint... especailly since it's a temp rated thing, the other thing that comes to mind... is the cam bearings...good luck.

How did you remove the oil pan with the engine in the car? ..i did not think that was possible in an F-body without doing some serious tear-down...

nope i tried that fearing the worst.when i looked at it again today it was a dry carpet looking stringy kinda material. lol. i checked the rod bearings and they look fine. should i totally disassemble the entire motor and start from scratch.

Cut open your oil filter and check to see if it didn't fall apart and travel through your motor. I cant think of any other fiberous material in an engine.

Did you use a plastic scouring kitchen dish pad to clean the block deck during a head swap....
Those pads work well but make a mess when the get used...
Mine created a lot of mess that was hard to clean out before heads install...could this be in your oil pan now?
