Default I'm just curious...

I'm saving up for some modifications but I don't want to repeat things and waste money. Id rather invest wisely and do it right at once, than do things multiple times with multiple parts that don't necessarily interact with eachother safely.

I've got a M6 LS1 with just longtubes, ls6 intake manifold, and a vararam.

What do you think I should do? I want to get the heads and cam first, and then put in a 408 stroker (probably a year or two later since it will take me some time to save because of other priorities etc. )

So my question is, if you were in my position, what set of heads would you go with now, if you were using a cam with under 600 lift (I really love the MTI cams) that would still be suitable when I eventually swap in that 408? I'll repeat myself in case I'm not clear... so I am curious as to what heads I could use on the stock LS1 that will flow moderately well for the 408 so I don't have to change them again. I plan to keep the same cam on the 408 as well. I will spray a 125 shot as well. I understand the setup wouldn't be up to par with the 408's potential, but I'm just curious as of now.

Any ideas?

I'd probably look into the AFR's or Trickflows if I was in your posistion... both are great heads and you really can't go wrong.

agreed....either of those would make a potent setup on a 346...and should still flow well enough on a big cube motor to make good power.

you'll have to run a pretty stout cam in the 346 if you want to "not buy a new cam" for the 408. unless you wanted to severly under-cam the 408.

something in the 340 range would make a NASTY 346....but a fairly mild 408.

but honestly...you could buy a smaller cam for the 346...and when you do the 408 just upgrade...you'll recover most of your cost by reselling the old cam....while at the same time not under-camming the big motor. what's an extra $200 over the cost of a new 408?

Very true about the cam selection. I just want a set of heads that will work fine with something under .600/.600 for the 346 and can also run quite well with a cam above .600/.600 with the 408. The AFR's are quite expensive. I wouldn't mind settling for something just a little cheaper that works...
The AFR 225cc heads look good. But should I use? 66cc or 72cc?

Are there any PRC heads out there that you all would recommend for the stock motor as well as a 408? Maybe this will work and will save me some dough: PRC 220cc 5.3L Stage 2.5 CNC Ported Heads from TSP...

Well, it seems apparent that I am able to use the PRC stage 2.5 heads from TSP. I'm just hoping that a cam with under .600/.600 lift will run smoothly with this larger head setup. I will eventually swap out the cam and sell the old one, to go with a bigger cam with the 408 shortblock. So do you think that with the stage 2.5 heads that a moderately sized 228/228 cam would run smoothly?

Thanks so much. Your advice is extremely appreciated. Thanks LS1tech.

Sure it would run great for you. My cam specs are 228/230 and it runs and drives great. You should have a nice setup on the stock cube motor. I would be looking to change some things when you go to the stocker setup.
