Default valvespring question

plan on doing a tr224 112 lsa cam swap. how much lift will the stock ls1 springs take? and what about rockers and pushrods? will they be ok for this cam?

you need to change the springs and pushrods, rockers will be fine. you can get some comp 918s for cheap or the patriot dual springs for around $240, they come with springs, retainers, and locks. the duals are a good security blanket, if one spring snaps you will have another to keep a valve from playing pinball in your cylinder. then you can pick any kind of hardened pushrods.

Id go with duels no doubt for added security, especially if you drive the car a lot.

I went with new PAC 1218's from SDPC (sdparts.com). I would avoid used 918's if I was you given their track record.

gmpp makes a hot cam that comes with ls6 springs and they say you can run the stock pushrods for $415. the duration is 218/227, why is the intake so much less than the exhaust? and what would be the advantage of the tr224/224 over 218/227?

The springs need to be changed as well as our pushrods to a hardened. Rocker arms will be fine. 918's/928's will be fine for that particular cam.

I'm thinking similar cam, just maybe the TR224 114, and I'm a newbie when it comes to LS1 mods....do you recommend going with 5/16" or 3/8" rods? Do you need to stay with 5/16" if stock rockers are retained. The Patriot dual springs look good. Would a change to the Patriot PN 2009 LS1 Stage II heads make sense to do?

A nice set of heads to accomodate the cam is always recommended. Heads that flow more than stock are never a bad idea per say but always get a set of heads that match the cam. Pretty parts are nice but only when they work together.
