If you want to stay smog friendly you can get a 224/224 on a 114 lsa.

If your question is as you stated. you should be asking with cams have a CARB #.. cause it is illegal to swap any cam in and be smog compliant if it doesn't have CARB #.

If your asking which cam can pass a smog test.. that is another question.. but general feeling are that the 224 cam can and will pass a calif test with a good tune.

As far as a best cam for your 00' SS.. what and how are you going to drive it and what are your expectatoins. What other mods are you going with?

But the TR224 are a good starting point.

I would look into the Cheater that Thunder Racing sells. It produces solid gains sounds like stock and it should pass smog with no problem.

It's all about overlap. You can't say anything about passing smog just by duration numbers. For example, the TR224 on a 114 will pass but a 218/227 hotcam will not, due to the fact it has more overlap. Find out the IVC and EVO numbers, figure out overlap, and make sure it's at most what the TR224 has.

I used to have this problem in NY where they passed more restrictive emmisions test RETROACTIVE to earlier manufactured cars. This should have been illegal but they did it anyway.

So two years ago they finally went away from the sniffer and to the PCM test. NO PCM lights - you pass.

..what a blessing.

Write Nancy Pelocy and Arnold the Terminator and tell them you are no girllie man and you want the state to move to a PCM test.

Hey did a quick little research, might be helpful, might not for you. I think you fell in right under the curve for exemption cars. Want to drop in a cam myself for a little more GRUNT!!! outta my bird.

what do you mean who cares about smog. He cares because he doesnt want to come on the message board asking "WHO CAn do an illegal smog for me" and shell out money every 2 years.

Either that or hed have to swap cams every time he gets it smogged.

As far as the hot cam, Ive seen someone in the bay area passing smog with the Hot cam, But its not gauranteed.

well im assuming your going to run Lt's along with any cam you choose right? If so than that right there is illegal in cali. No lt's are carb legal and shorties suck because u wont get the gains lts give. So my best advice is **** trying to pass smog and do what im gonna do on my vette.

Heads, big cam, and fast 90/90 along with some Lt's....**** passing smog and being quiet...
