Default Help choose cam plz

I have searched and searched but, still need some help deciding on a cam for my "cam only" SS. 2001 M6 with Full Bolt ons, stock bottom end and stock heads. Ill be throwing in prc dual springs and all the goodies to go with a cam swap. Can I go over .600 lift? I chatted with a few people and they recommend the TSP t2 and the TSP 233/239. Also have people beating ms3 in my head. Any info and input are greatly appreciated. thanks

I think any of the cams you are thinking of are fine. I just put the TSP torquer v.3 in and
I love it. 231/234 .643/.598 I put 404rwhp and 374rwtq bolt ons and cam only.

Or you can go custom which any sponsor dealing in cams can grind for ya. I prefer Comp Cam Lobes.

2 grinds I've had very nice success with cam only:

1- The RAPTOR 227/230 .629/.590 114+4 LSA (or 112+4 if you want an earlier powerband). While only 2* overlap it is easy to tune and has a nice chopchop. 62/6300 rpm peak and will carry nicely to 65/6600. It made 404rwhp/385 rwtq on a A4 with 4000 stall + bolt ons. M6 would be another 10rwhp at least
2- The PREDATOR 231/240 .643/.608 112+4 (or 114+4), now this is a more serious cam with around 11.5* overlap, 62/6300 rpm peak and will carry nicely to 66/6800. This one made 426rwhp/385rwtq on a M6 cam only + bolt ons on a 9inch rear and 430 dif gears with Textalia clutch.

For other custom grinds, Patrick G (Thunder Racing) also specs them to tailor your combo. He is pretty good at what he does.

There are dozens of cam grinds available, it is up to you to sit down and decide what your powerband desired is and whether you want it friendly for DD or not.

Budget at least $1200 for a cam swap that should include tuning if you do all the work yourself.

thanks for the info guys. This car IS NOT a daily driver. weekend warrior with a few track passes per year. For some reason I read something about .600 lift is safe but cant find the info again. I dont want to spin the **** out of her, but dont want to go with a small/medium cam and wish I went bigger. My uncle went with a medium cam in the .580 lift range and wished he went bigger in his car with same mods

Car has full bolt ons,Pacesetters,TSP catted Y,PP tb,UD pulley, 4.10 rear, brand new ls7/ls2 clutch, bolt on suspension from UMI (torque arm, lca`s,lca relo.,subframes).

I DEFINITELY want a nasty lope. I believe the 4.10`s in the rear will make up for any power missing down low correct? Can I go over .600 lift and be "safe" as far as motor without blowing it in 5k miles? Thanks for all the help as im a CAM NOOB.

Stock 342s. The power feels good, but I'll have an M12 transmission in it in the next couple weeks that should make it feel even better.

I've always been a fan of the TSP 233/239 cam. That or the MS3. The TSP duals will handle em fine.

What made you decide to run so much exhaust bias?

Jay I saw that package deal you got. good find. I was gonna buy up the 2nd one but dont want to pull the heads.

ya I like the TSP 233/239 and the ms3 my 4.10 gears should make up for low end power. I just dont want to get a cam and wish I went bigger. I pmed the local tuner and will see his opinion. thanks guys

This would be best tailored for 1 3/4 headers and catback with heads being stock to allow increased charge from the LSK lift to exit with ease. Good high rpm flow.
