trying to learn...need your help
Hey guys I have been researching for days on end now and I need your help.
I have an 01 SS with a vortech kit on it. long tubes, custom true duals, spec stage 3+ clutch. It made a hair over 450hp and 432ft/lbs at 6lbs of boost.
I've decided that in the next 6 months or so, I want do a new motor. My motor only has 38,000 miles on it. I cant decide if I should buy all the parts seperate and then have someone tear my motor apart and then rebuild it. I am looking to do forged pistons, rods, afr 6.0 heads, blower cam, along with all the other basic necessities for a solid motor for boost. My goal is 600 at the wheels.
My dilema is that I have zero experience with any internal motor work or assembly. I would rather pay someone who knows what there doing one time instead of half assing it and doing it twice.
Pricing out the parts from various sponsors is only a few thousand less than buying a complete built motor from say TSP or one of the other sponsors. How much on average do you guys think it would cost to have a shop rebuild my motor?
Also, I am not too sure about some of the details on the needed parts. Like the particular pistons. -8cc's, what particular rods. etc... This is another reason I am thinking about buying a complete motor from a reputable sponsor. I am trying to learn it all before I jump into this project.
I appreciate all of your help.
