Default 2000 Oil Pump

So i've heard a lot of questions about a cam and swapping the oil pump. I've searched a lot on the forum and am putting in a cam this Friday. My question, is some people say 98-00 pumps are bad and are a must change. Others say 98 and 99 are bad, but if its a 00 or newer should be fine. I plan to make about 410 to the wheels. I am worried, though, as I have a 2000 TA. I am on a budget which is the only reason I am considering not changing it. That, and my stock one right now is running perfect. HPE quoted me an extra 80 in labor plus the price of the pump to do it which is a little pricey if its not needed in the 2000 model.
Thanks for your help.

If you have any doubts change it. Cheaper now than later. I did a cam swap and the pump went out the next day. True story...

ttt...i know the 01 and 02's had the ls6 pump stock...I was wondering if the 2000 does too. I know the 98-99 had problems, but the 2000 goes both ways and was wondering why?
Thanks.

Hey, b4ster602, Did you say that the shop wants to charge you an extra $80 in labor + the price of the new oil pump when they do your H/C????
The the oil pump has to come off during a Cam change anyway. Does that $80 in labor include the price of porting the new stock oil pump? If not, Whats the extra 80. bucks for.

The oil pump has to come off to put a new timing chain on.

just thinking that, theres no way they can charge you $80 for something thats basically included in the cam install. id make sure they know that, because it seems like them trying to pull something over on you,

that being said, a pump change now SHOULD cost you around $100, which is a pretty good deal for peace of mind. i think ws6store has the 295 melling and the LS6 pump for that price. Ported pumps arent really neccesary, unless you up the cubes or go FI, those pumps are just really good for lasting

ya he said he would do the cam install for a price and for an extra 88 dollars he would do timing chain and oil pump plus parts.
