Default Weight of a complete LS1 compared to a Eco-tec?

Didn't really know where to put this. But I' trying to find out how much weight difference there is between the LS1 motor and the Eco-tec 2.0 or 2.2 motors? I'm trying to decide which one I want to use. They can both be made to handle alot of power, so it's really coming down to weight.

It's going to be going in my 65 Corvair I have. It currently has a 455 Olds motor in it and I want to lighten it up and get some more power out of it at the same time. Car should weigh close to 2,700 if not less.

Thinking about adding the 2L LSJ supercharged eh? With a 2700lb curb weight the LSJ shouldn't have a problem.

Let me just say this tho. With the stock eaton. The most you'll be able to push would be 270-280whp. Port the head and 300whp is easy.

Look into the 2.4L instead of the 2L. Cheaper and more displacement. Could probably get your hands on a used 2.4L for 500 bucks

Don't put a four cylinder in that car. All you would do is wonder what it would be like with the big boy in there. Build a LSx to make the power you want to damn the four bangers. When you start making that much power out of them they are very peaky.

I know the ecotecs can be made to handle a lot of power, but the power bands for the ls1 and the ecotec will be totally different. Are you building for street or strip?

Building it for fun. The car weighs 2,000 with no motor or trans. So, if I can put a 360 Dressed Ecotec in it and add 200 more for the drivetrain I'm using, I'll in theory have a 2,500 lb screamer that's about 40/60 weight distro.

they make 260hp 2 stroke twin cylinders now, too, one on each tire.....hehehehe. I think the ecotech should be good for low power to weight, if its a purpose built car. I always thought the 500hp 4 cyls were semi-disposable engines, but if its not a daily driver....Personally I'd build an LSx and lose the weight elsewhere.

Don't forget to account for the additional weight of the turbo system when considering the Ecotec. Sure the dressed Ecotec might weigh ~350lb, but add 100lb of turbo, intercooler, and plumbing, and it's quickly getting within slapping distance of the LS1.

Also, the 500lb (even) dressed weight of the M6 LS1 includes the OEM 50lb flywheel and the heavy exhaust manifolds. There's an easy 50lb+ savings just by swapping those items for lighter parts.

In the end, the difference in weight will likely be less than 100lb, maybe 50lb, and just ask yourself if that's really worth the trade from the LS1's power curve.

Another thing -- 500whp from even a built 2.4L Ecotec will require an unfortunately large turbo that isn't likely to spool until sometime after 4500rpm, and will require race gas as well. But 500whp is possible on stock cubes and 91-octane with an LS1. . . .

Have you considered an LC2?
