Default How do I know if pully needs machined??

I'm installing my pully after my rollmaster double row timing chain install. The pully seems like it needs to go in just a hair more to be fully lined up. I won't be able to get it machined until next week now and I would like to run the car this weekend. How do I know if they pully is against the crank or resting on the oil pump? I'm afraid to torque it down if it's against the pump.

Did you measure the distance from the end of the crank to the oil pump and mark that distance on the pulley? Then you would know. Just an idea other than that I don't know how to tell except for the fact that the pulley is supposed to be tourqued to @ 250 ft/lbs so if it is that tite then chances are you are against the pump.
