Default Just about burned myself changing oil, WTF?

Just came back from the store to get oil, drove 5-6 miles. Get home and start to change oil. Car has sat for at least 20 min. I figure oil will be warm, to my suprise it just about burned my arm and i could not hold the bolt. The oil was very very hot and very thin. This is starting to make me nervous. No metal in it though. Car only has 9k miles.

I installed an LS6 cam/springs 200 miles ago and put in fresh dino oil 10w30. Car set a code 100 miles ago: P1683 "Driver 5 Line 3" I have no idea what this means. Autozones computer says "Metering oil pump temperature sensor malfunction" WTF?

I thought these cars had oil coolers?

Is this just coincedence? The oil is reaaaly hot and thin! Please help!!

It is summertime and even 20/50 would probably look thin after a very short running time.If it was me I would'nt worry about it.

I'd let it sit for an hour or two. Hot oil = suxors.

I used to work at a lube shop and i swear people drove 500 miles before they came in. But during the summer its doesnt take long to heat up so i wouldnt worry about it.

Wear gloves when doing oil changes, it makes life much easier. I changed my sister's oil yesterday on a super hot day, and didn't get burned at all when taking off the plug, although I would have if I didn't wear gloves. I let the oil drain a good 45min too, to give the oil filter and surrounding hot exhaust time to cool (her car is a Civic, so to get to the filter your arm gets very close to the exhaust)

when I do ANYTHING on my engine.....I bring the car home at say 3PM and don't even open the hood till 7 or 8 that night. Most of the time I just let the car sit over night and work in the morning.

Getting burned/cut/hurt in any way really takes the fun out of working on your car....

yep.....I installed an oil cooler on my Z28 and it really brought the temps down (both oil AND water).....

The oil temp would run between 230 and 260 degrees (depending on outside temp and driving/racing.....)....

now with the oil cooler, I almost never get above 200 on oil temps (typically stays around 170)....

I have two 18 inch fans I use to cool the motor if I want to work on it soon after driving. Just lay 'em up on top the motor and allow them to blow down across the motor. Takes about 30 mins to cool it to the point its comfortable to touch

man, motor oil is just hot after you've ran the motor. your temp guage normally reads about 200 degrees. anything 200 degrees is hot and will burn you.i can't believe no one has made a joke yet. my g/f even thought this was funny...she's very blonde.
