Default quick help with afr 205's

I have a set of afr 205 heads that i bought without the upgraded 8019 springs, i called afr and got everything needed to upgrade them. But the new spring cups are much thiner around the edges and theirs extra space between the head and the side of the new spring cup. No extra space with the old ones, the new upgraded springs fit in both the old and new cups, is this right. please explaine and help, afr is closed sunday and today is my day off.

Thats the way its suppose to be...

The cups are thinner then the original locators we used a few years ago because they are now stamped steel (heat-treated and black anodized).

This type of spring cup locates around the guide boss (called "ID" locaters) so the extra air gap around their perimeter and the machined surface of the head poses no issues. The cup still locates the spring properly and can't move around....

Proceed with your spring install....

now another problem, i got all seven cylinders done on one head and got to the last and grabed a springs and noticed the inner spring sticks out further then the outer i campared it to others and the inside spring has thiner coils and like 1 myber more coils, i looked through them all and i have 4 like this. their just slightly lighter in color also. the outer is the same besides the very littel color difference. Now im lost on what to do, and very discouraged to do anything else.

just push it in and continue on it'll be ok... The inner spring just shifted a bit and now it's sticking out a little bit right.... a six pack would help as well

for future refrence if you buy the upgraded 8019 springs from someone, If the inner springs doesnt stick out past the outer then you have the wrong springs. Now i will be taking the springs back off again while in the car

Just to clarify, he bought the 8019's from a private individual and it seems he may have gotten sold a bag of goods and got standard springs instead (actually some standard and some the upgrade springs).

First off buying used springs in general is a dicey proposition....you dont know whether they have 100 miles or 10,000 miles on them.

With valve springs its always best to go new unless you absolutely trust the source.

yes i bought them from someone on here. They are brand new, but mixed up with two different kinds of springs. I talked to afr today and they clairfied it for me what kind i have, thanks by the way dont know who else i would have called. Bought a set from afr today, now just need to bend over backwards and take them off, and put the right ones on when i get them.

What size cam are you running. I still have your old springs laying around if you need them. I went with a set of comp 918's so I didn't have to buy cups and retainers.

I just did. I got fucked out of this whole deal because the bastard that sold them to me is the one who fucked it up. They sat in the box for the whole month I owned them and when I decided to go with a 9 inch before my cam setup I just sold them and described them as how they were sold to me. I never noticed the difference and wouldn't have until I installed them much like how he had them for 45 some odd days and didn't catch the problem until install day...now I'm out $125 and have springs that don't match and I don't need anyway....

I believe I will go brand new from now on...
