Default 69 Camaro - LS6 cam advice please

I've read and searched here quite a bit and unless I've completely missed the answer to my question I haven't found it yet.

My Cam selection is a bit unusual for this forum. I have a 69 Camaro that I'm doing the LSX conversion on. It will have:

A 2002 LS1 with the LS6 block and the LS6 intake. I don't have to run a Catalytic convertor (smog exempt ) so it'll just have Stainless works long tube headers into a 3" dual X pipe exhaust. It has the M6 T-56 Transmission. It has a 3:73 rear end ratio with 315/35R17 tires. I have a set of 243 casting LS6 heads that I plan on putting on it.

So the question is--- What's a good cam for something like this application. I've thought about just running the LS6 cam but from reading here it seems that the are better options out there. I guess my goals for the cam would be heathly idle, good power, driveability (without comprimising power), and quality. I'd prefer to stay away from Comp Cams as I have several Big Block Chevys and that particular company has a very bad history in those engines.

I appreciate any and all suggestions, Thanks Lance

First off comp cams is the grind on most of the aftermarket cams for a LSx motor. They seem to have the best ramps for our particular engine. I would run a Texas Speed 228R with a 112 lsa, or a 230/232 cam like a Futal f-13 if I were you. Also I would change your rear end ratio to at least a 4.10 to get the most out of the cam. 3.73's with a 6 speed is pretty much worthless unless you are running some serious horsepower.

I am not sure 3.73 are worthless...any lower and 1st would be useless on the street.

Wow, Have ever drove or ridden in a t-56 car w/ 4.11???
I totally agree with your cam choices though I'm looking at those 2 cams as well but with 3.55 or 3.73 posi & a 3400 stall with my A4.

OK I've been researching all morning and come up with a couple of options.

There's the Futral F-13 in either 112 or 114 lsa

There's the new Futral F-13 highlift in either 112 or 114 lsa

Then there is a custom cam that Shawn from VA Speed sent me that is 228-232 duration and 598-600 lift

Can anybody give me some feedback on these cams please.

Is anybody here running the new F-13-highlift? I couldn't seem to find much on the newer highlift versions.

Thank you, Lance

i have the ls6 cam and wish i'd gone slightly bigger. 550 lift 204/218 dur on 117lsa. 600 rpm idle , sounds like stock. low dyno numbers. i have an A4 and was worried about idle. since you have a stick you can get away with a bigger cam. just my 2 cents. in your position i'd go with at least a tr224.

Comp Cams in my opinion is the only brand of cam to get for an lsx motor. Mine has the xer lobes and I love it.

I run 4.30's and no 1st gear is not worthless on the street. If he is going to get a larger cam, a steeper gear is in order, to get the full potential of the cam.

I am running a 230/232 604/604 113+1 lsa. Perfect cam for a street/strip car. Like I said you wont be disapointed in the F-13 or the F-13 high lift. almost the same I am running.

Yes, I have 4.30's in my 9" with my 6 speed and love them. I had 3.90's in my 10 bolt and wanted something steeper, I am glad I went to the 4.30's

??? Do you go more than 10 feet without shifting into 2nd ??? Do you shift at 7200 ??? I would like to take a ride in your car though. With your mods I'm sure it screams!

Heck, for my current build I can't decide between what cam (TSP228/T.2/F12/F13...), what stall (3200-3600) & what rear (3.55 or 3.73) for my A4 LS1....

I thought in CA that had to pass emissions for whatever was newer- engine or car - correct me if im wrong. TX doesn't seem to be THAT tight yet -69=no emission testing- actually over 25 years old doesn't require emission testing

Sorry, My bad, I miss read the thread and thought the car was the 2002 and putting a LS6....

In Calif.. 75 and older are exempt from smog test (as far, but that could change). If the car is 76 and newer.. then yes, it would be requirement of the newer engine.
