Default 00 vs 01 engines

i will soon be having an LS1 project car. i've heard that 01 are much better engines to start with than earlier years. why is that?

has better heads and intake,block is a little better than the real early ones,better oiling and thicker sleeves

But didnt 2001 have the whole piston ring trouble with oil consumption?? I thought I read that the 2001 model cars had different rings that they had to change in 2002 b/c they werent as good as previous rings.

I don't know about the ring issue, but they are different heads, intake, cam, and different exhaust manifolds and cat placement. The head change actually happened mid 2000, some had 241s and some still had 853s

And there is the oil pump failure they also supposedly fixed in 01
