Default gm hotcam

cant make up my mind on a cam looking at either the Gm hotcam or the tr 224. whats gonna be the better cam for DD and longevity. working on a budget so that would be the biggest thing really. what kinda power would i put down with the hotcam. i know with the 224 i would put down around 380 would it be anything like that with the hotcam

I guess which is cheaper than? I would suggest one of our street cams. Around .540 Lift, not to much overlap, and will give a decent power jump. Plus, it will be extremely streetable.

Hotcams have made as much as 39x rwhp. Only 525 lift, you can get the kit dirt cheap.

But the hotcams do not make the mid range of some of the aftermarket cams out here.

I'd say go with the TR224... once you have it in, you'll be grinning from ear to ear...

224 gets my vote. Bigger and still maintains great street manners.

Hotcam is really outdated tech. You can get a much better cam power wise and still have just as good if not better dd. You ought to see what schwanke has to offer.

I'm about to be getting a 228/232 .588/.595 110 +1 lsa for dd use. Really, unless you're going with huge lift, there's not much price different between different cam installs. They really all need springs, push rods, and a tune. You can cut a lot of cost by installing it yourself, but if you can't you're looking at anywhere from 350 on the cheap side to 750-1000 on the expensive.

Wow, 110+1 LSA for a daily driver cam? That's no small cam in terms of the other specs, either, but I guess a good tune will solve any problems. I'm just not used to seeing such a low LSA on a cam purchased for daily driving.

I am for the Hot Cam, better sound (meaner), pulles harder up top end (mph) and isnt as hard in valve springs but the springs that the kit sends aren't what I use on the cars Ive done (918 Comp Cams). My brother had them both and he was more saticfyed with the hot cam but it is a little bit harder to tune but not much and put down on the dyno 388 rwhp and 382 rwtq and thats 6 rwhp totaling more with just a cam swap only and tune and pulls from the git go. LOL

I have the hotcam and love it. 39^ RWHP and 39_RWTQ with stock LS6 heads, LT and tuned. But my car was a beast from the factory so I was told.

i made 393hp and 370ft lbs without the Fast and 85mm mafs
then I went w/ teh FAST and 85mm mafs and put down 406hp and 378ft lbs
The harland sharp are ready to go in so I might see a lil bit more who knows.
How outdated or low tech can a cam get? a faster ramp rate? I love it!
sounds good and backs it up, plus I dont have to worry about springs breaking or wearing out.

go with the TR224, i have a buddy who just dynoed at 390 RWHP and 370 RWTQ with a 224 114lsa cam. I think the 224 has alot more time and thought into it. Spend the extra cash if any and get the 224 it is also a better cam with certain heads.....

i have been impressed with what i have heard about the hot cam and not so impressed with folks bragging about running 12s with a 581 lift cam. goes to show lift aint everything and the gm engineers know a thing or two.
