Seem to see more and more 383s lately...
as i browse through the forum, i am seeing more people with 383s. and here i thought i was one of the few...lol. just asking people running the 383 set up to chime in. what kind of performance you all getting. do you like your set ups? or do you wish you would have went a different route? in other words if you had to do it all over again... would you change anything? curious minds want to know

Just finishing my up. AFR205's, Fast 90/90, Comp 238/240, Pacesetters, Eagle crank, Scat rods, Mahle pistons, LS7 lifters, etc. Not sure what to expect. Hoping for 480+RW thru M6 with 3.42's.

I really need to start researching the bottum end options out there, but to my knowledge the 383 can actually be a lot cheaper to build than say a 408?

I like my setup and it works great for the street. I just need to swap out the cam now to really get the engine to its full potential. As for daily driving the car is a big improvement over the 346 with the extra torque.

the LS1s are all starting to reach the age where a rebuild is needed for any decent engine performance.
not everyone yanks out the engine with 30K miles and rebuilds....we wait till it has 150K and dies...then we rebuild.
the nice thing about the 383 is that its the same light alum block as stock and has none of the "small" changes that need to be done like some 402/408/4xx blocks require.
i plan to turn mine into a 383 when i finally kill it

Just done the cam in my 383 today, Pat G specced a cam for me and ground by Thunder Racing, its come out at 233/237 .625/.629, got it fired up today and a quick blast around the block, but its wet an orrible here so just spun everywhere, on the rollers tommorow! Idle sounds just nice by the way!

im currently building mine so far im spending almost as much as a 408 would have costed me and im doing the work myself pretty much the only thing im using that i already had is my block timing covers and valve covers if i had to do it again i would go bigger plus it would probly handle the 200 shot that i want to throw on my currently building 383 and give me better cyl head options with 4.0 bore or bu\igger

i realize the weight is not much...but for a something like a autoX car or something where weight distribution is a concern....it's enough.
granted with a tubular k member you could just about offset that weight

With my present set up it's as big as I need to go. I only have a six point roll bar and I am pushing the 135 MPH limit right now. Now if I was running NA the bigger engine would be better no doubt.

My LS1 has a Lunati 383 stroker kit with a medium sized Cartek cam and I love it. Awesome torque curve. Details and dyno numbers are in my sig. It hasn't been to the track yet. Hopefully will be there next month.

I have over 2 years on my 383. It's a great street motor. You can idle around town and still run great at the track. I went with the Callies bottom end and it has been fine. I just ordered Afco's for the front and rear. Trying to work on the 60 foot times.
On a down note it has been using water for a while. It's leaking into the # 8 cyl. I pulled the head once and replaced the gasket, it helped a little. The other day it got worse. The # 8 cyl is full again. I pulled the head going to the machine shop to have it checked out. If the block is bad I am going to go with the LS2 block and use my bottom end with new pistons.
