Default Need Help fast,With this cam any tuning required with an A4.

I say fast because im dropping off my car to get the rearend fixed monday, and they will do the cam for me at the same time, but i dont want to make a mistake and have the cam done and then the car runs bad and wont idle with out LS1 edit.I have a compcam 216/220Dur>525/532 on a 114. This is an A4, Since im having the rearend fixed i do not have the money for Edit, Or should i just sell it and get a different cam, This is my only car. Thanks

I have that cam in one of my cars. There is some idle surging when cold, but once warmed up, it idles OK. The biggest problem I have with it is the misfires. You will get a SES light if it idles too long and the misfires keep my converter from locking up reliably. Sometimes it will lock OK and then unlock. Sometimes it will not lock up at all. I'm running a ST3500 still on the stock tune and idle speed. I ran a Comp 212/218 in another car I had and never got a misfire code or had lock up problems with it with stock tuning and idle speed.

any cam in a A4 is gonna need a little tuning to get perfect idle... A4's are picky:-P

but that cam wont need much to get by. If anything you may just have to drill the TB hole or something. Wrose comes to worse you would need to raise your idle a tad on edit and maybe turn off some misfire codes.

But you can get by fine with that cam and no tuning. Just might be some surge here and there.. nothing really bad though

So what should i do sell it and get a smaller cam or put it in and hope its ok. Comeon guys is it worth it or not, I will not have the money to tune it if i put it in for a while ,we are talking months here .

TR220 is the smallest I would go

but you will be fine with that cam, i was just saying for perfect driving and racing it may need some tuning.

If some people are saying it will need a tune with 216 duration wouldnt a 220 duration need a tune as well.

I've told you exactly what to expect with that cam. It is in one of my cars right now. You need to decide if you can live with the problems I described. There is a place you can send your PCM that will do anything you ask excluding any tuning for $75. You could have the idle speed raised and the misfires desensitized and it will run OK. I went 12.07/113 in a 3700 lb car with that cam, Lingenfelter S2 heads, Hooker LTs and a ST3500.
