Default CC26918-Complete Junk After 2000 mile-Opinions Please

Asking the question for a buddy.......

Got some CC26918 (blue stripe) valve springs intalled at 1.78" with 224@ .050" .567" lift rockers that are completely dead (lowest tests at 70lb best at 120lb-average 110lb) after only 2k of running. What is your guys opinions of what has caused the springs to loose so much tension so quick? Have Comp Cams got a problem with this spring that it want live at well under the rated coil bind?

Has anyone had these springs go off so quick before because these things are complete junk and I need to know for him if it is common.

did he live at 7000 rpm the entire time??? that's the only way i can see them going bad that quick. many people are running those springs with cams like the one you described and even bigger. i've never heard of them wearing out that quick

Arrrgghhh...just when I think I've decided on a valve spring, there's something like this that comes up

The LS1 has been out over 6 years now! ....and still we are waiting on a dependable valve spring.

Did you heat cycle them?

Continuous valve float or misinstallation IMHO....

There are a few guys out there who missed their calling as NASCAR drivers. I think that kicks A$$, personally. I'm pretty sure NASCAR teams change springs after each 500 mile race....

Comp springs are junk.

Really? I have used several types of Comp springs, and never had a problem. Infact, I've been using Comp springs for 15 years with no complaints. It's got to be something else. Springs don't just go flat like that after 2000 miles.

they did have a bad batch and that is why they started the blue stripe, to make sure you don't have the one's WITHOUT the blue stripe. His are from the "revised" batch.

I have almost 2 years and 20,000 miles on mine with no problems. Comp. may work something out for you on another set of springs or another type of springs. You will not get nothing but praise here on the 918s.

were they tested initially?
all springs were compressed to solid height and then tested from 140lb-150lb at the installed height quote.

Cycled? Couldn't tell you how they were ran in.

They just seem to be real junk if they wouldn't live for 2000k!! Someone else must of had this problem surely......

I never had a problem with mine and i consider my cam pretty big. I have a few thousand miles on them and have bumped the limiter a few times, haven't had any trouble. good luck

I love my Rev dual valve springs...might want to check on their single coil springs for replacements. I'm running a .591 lift cam...also they're pretty quiet springs

Were these springs bought new or used? They must be heat cycled upon initial installation to ensure proper function and performance.

Springs should not be compressed to coil bind, this is bad for them. My 918's have over 20,000 miles driven every day, and 70+ track runs, i dont run titanium retainers and i spin 6800 rpm on a regular basis. I have only lost 10 lbs on these springs since install and i have checked them twice. I love them personally!

Interestingly it is a technique used by many engine builders to relief the spring before installation- often results in a loss of upto 10lb on this style of spring on the first crush bit no loss after-enabling the installed tension to be found accurately instead of allowing for the loss in installation.

Do you think that one compression to solid height is the difference between these spring working or not?

From other posts it would be safe to assume that the spring work fine in this application as long as it isn't abused...do you guys think that this spring was thrashed to get it to dump so quickly? Or do Comp Have a problem with this spring cause these things are DEAD!! Bent valves have resulted from it to make matters worse......

You seem to know what's going on...did you install these PERSONALLY so you know installed height was, in fact, correct??? I know I received a set of heads from a vendor (N-O-T my current set!) that had installed heights that were 0.1 short (partly because of the REV retainers that were used). Had I not checked this, it would have instantly resulted in coil bind and untold destruction!

If you have a blue stripe comp spring set it was shipped from the factory as a defective part.

Demand that they replace the spring set and have them pay for the labor for the spring change.

Next time avoid Comp and buy Lunati double REVs....
