Default Changed oil brand, now PCV catch can collects much more oil!

For the first 2000 miles on my 427 I was running Castrol GTX 20w50. I recently switched to Mobil 1 15w50, and now my Greddy PCV catch can gets completely filled with oil in less than 500 miles. When I was using Castrol the catch can was only 1/4 filled after 1000 miles. My driving habits were the same with both oils.

What does that really mean???!!!

Not sure...???

Do you also have an LS6 valley cover? I was sucking a lot of oil before I installed the valley cover so you may want to consider this...

Fine, but why would the type of oil change anything in the way which the PCV system works?

Well,

The Castrol oil you were using was quite thick, then you switched to a thinner oil. I guess it makes sense that the thinner oil is more easily sucked through the PCV system.

Technically, a 20w-50 and a 15w-50 should both be 50 wieght (at 180 degrees as I remember). The 20w or 15w is the winter rating, it shows the temp that the oil will "pump" at (it has to be converted, 15w50 is not 15 degrees, I think it is about -10, but I can't find my chart). However, synthetic oil seems to run slightly "thinner" at the same temp as a similar conventional oil. The potential for a slight loss of viscosity may be to blame for the bulk of your problem...or it may not....Just my thoughts.
