LQ-9 Any know about these butes?
I am removing a 2001 lq-9 from a customers truck & replacing it with a jasper. thats good for him. I am wanting to know if this would be a good foundation for my next engine. i know the blocks are fine but, are the heads & crank worth a crap. currently i run the ls-1 all stock internals 536 h.p 550 tq. at the tire with 10 p.s.i.( more info in my profile & sig.) i can buy the core for $465.00 i know the piston rods are not good for big power but, i am un shure on the rest. the only thing wrong with this one is the infamas piston slap curse. It does have the alum. heads. if any one has info let me know. thanx for reading my post.

I don't think they made an LQ9 in 2001. It must be an LQ4. What's the VIN code (8th character)? Rotating assembly is essentially the same as a 2001 LS1. Rod bolts would be worthwhile to change out, but it would be a good platform for a 500-550 hp build. It has the 317 aluminum heads, which are great FI heads.

ATT: BLACK Z-the 8th digit is a (U). i have no interest in the rods & piston as for i want to up my h.p. from 536 to 640+ at the tire i know my turbo will be running out of efficency right about there. i will cross that road. abtaining a gt70 or gt 76 is easy as for i am a active sts dealer. we are just now installing aor new dyno jet chassis dyno. so it will be easy for me to take all the appropriet readingsfrom the charge pipes, intercooler ect. to check charge temps ect. i am un sure about the quality of crank & heads on this 6.0l vin# u engine lol(lq-4, lq-9?)lol thanx

I was wondering what you were talking about. Forgot about the sig! That came from a trash talking thread a few yrs back. Funniest things you told someone before/after a race.
I would use the block, it's going to be stronger in the longrun with the turbo.

what about the crank. think it will do 800h.p. i know a bigger throw would be nice for cubes but, i can make it up on boost. what i am getting at is if the crank is strong ill run it. if not i will go 408 or so.

lol. well i think that should be adiqit.lol the fuel system for those kind of ponys would not be in the budget for a while not to mention all the other crap. i will run the crank till the next build. i shold be able to build at least a 370cu moter with that crank.

The LQ9 is a higher compression engine. It has flat top pistons and beefier rods than the LQ4. The LQ4 is about 9.4:1, and IIRC the LQ9 is about 10.1:1 or so. Both have the same crank and the same 317 heads. The LS1/6 parts will all bolt up just fine.
