Default NGK TR6 on a N/A engine and no N20...

I'm experiencing a little knock, thought I would try the TR6's since I already have the cooler stat and run 93 octane. Any thoughts on running these plugs on a stock internals, no N2O N/A LS1?

Would I gap them the recommended gap of .060 or go a bit smaller, say .050?

i'm not sure about this but it was recomended to me by a shop to run the tr6's on my motor (stock except the cam) and to gap them at .040. i don't know really why, but it was suggested to me once

I run them in my car. Gap set at .050, this is what thunder racing told me to do. No problems with them so far. I'm N/A as well

I would highly recommed you try the TR6's.

Most of the "old timers" have been doing it for years to combat knock... especially in the summer months.

Good luck.

These are great replies, thanks!
Only thing I see as a potential problem is gapping them to .050. I know I have read somewhere that you shouldnt change the preset gap more than +/- .010 (The TR6's come pre gapped to .035)

Am I wrong in that belief?

Doug, that is a rule of thumb, not a law. But you will be ok gapping to .050.

Some say you lose NA power with 6's, but if not gapped right you will with any plug. I run them, yeah N2O also, but normal driving is on the 6's and no problems, i even run a tighter gap .038".

Have fun, Charlie.

I've run TR-6's for around a year now, gapped at .38" also. No problems at all, car runs excellent.

I've been running TR6's gapped at 0.044" for years now. As John pointed out, I did it initially to combat KR. Worked really well too.

Just stay away from the Bosch platinum +4's. I just put mine in and had one hot day last week, and the car was knocking all over the place.

I hear you NataSS about the Platinum 4s...for some odd reason I decided to switch from my TR-55s and go with the Bosches....stupid stupid me! My car ran pretty good when I put them in, but once this Texas heat rolled in, my car has been running like poo! I went ahead and ordered some NGK Iridiums yesterday...my car should thank me...I hope. I heard a lot of good things about these plugs except that they are one of the expensive kinds. I hope they work all right. - Pat

NGK'S are some of the best plugs i've run. take these other guys advise about the bosch's they are a tad too hot for our motors, especially if you've upped the cr. i can get away w/ 28* total w/ the Ngk's and 11.2:1, in my iron motor.

I had the TR6s in my 98, at .044, when I ran my 12.68 at 110.6. According to Autotap I got no spark retard at all, even in fourth gear at WOT, and I even had a ported MAF and the HPP3 tuning.

So these plugs do help keep detonation away.

They don't last long though, I only got 13k out of them before they fouled up good.

Pat-Man...the NGK 'I's are cheaper than the Denso Iridiums. What number plug, I am trying to find out what the equivalent to the TR6 is in Iridium and then one colder for a DP-200shot.

Hello...I am the new Pat-Man. I'm jumpcable over at LS1.com. I actually just got my NGK Iridiums today and I am waiting to install them once my headers come in for my cam swap. See you all on the boards. - Pat

I always gap TR6's at .050 for NA applications. As long as you stay within .010 of the stock gap reccomended for a car it's fine.

13k! Ummm... I've had mine gapped at .38 for about 22k or so now. The car is running fine, no knocking at all. Am I losing power? I'm getting ready to do the mods listed in my sig below in about three weeks. Should I stay with the TR-6's gapped at .050? Someone recommended TR-55's at .050.
BTW: Is there any ill effects to leaving a plug in too long even if it's not knocking or misifiring? i.e. harder to get back out. I hope I don't break one off in there when I go to remove them. Thanks.

I'd only go .038 for a mild nitrous application. Car might idle a bit better and have hotter spark with .048 and burn the fuel better.

With my blown application my plugs are gapped at .035.
