Default catastrofic caddy lifter failure...

sorry but im super pissed right now. dont even know where to start but i had 3...yes 3 lifters take a dive on me. 1 is missing the roller completely (yes its in the block somewhere), 1 the snap ring popped out and plunger etc was haning on for dear life and the other the actual case of the lifter is split right down the side. i had to use a slide hammer to get that one out and the one missing the roller is beyond wedged in the block. so in short my motor will need to be completely tore down most likely and i dont even know if the lifter bores will be salvageable without being bushed. im glad i sprung the extra loot for the "good" lifters btw thes had 2k miles on them and when they let go they let it be known.

that sucks. I was worried about that so I put down the extra coin and went with morrels. Hopefully they prove to be worth the money

Damn, that sucks!!!! How long ago did you get them and where did you buy them from? I just got some for my car as well and they're sitting in the box waiting for the time to tear the engine down and replace my stockers. I got mine from SDPC.

Can't go wrong with any of the TFS. don't be scared of that compression either. I'm right under 12:1 with this shitty CA gas

I am sure there was a very old thread about these lifters failing.

The skirt goes past the bore hole and the lifter fulcrums on the edge of the hole instead of being in the bore and applying the pressure to the side (IMHO)

It then cracks and fails.

Guy had pictures of the damaged lifter.

Things like this are what make me worry. Hate to hear it; but good luck with the build.

I hate lifters... lately there has been a lot of issues with the lifters in our cars it seems...

I just replaced mine with the stockers and I get the car back at the end of this month... hopefully all will be well...

good luck with whatever you decide to do for your future build...

got any pics of the lifters that took a dump?

Sorry to hear about your lifter failure .. I have 153,000 miles on two sets of stock lifters..put 128,000 of the first set with a 233/233 .595/.595 112 cam in it...red lined at 7000 rpms..no problems..I almost went with a set of the caddy's or the LS7s when I replaced them last spring .. but went back with the LS1 stockers instead...if it aint broke dont fix it was my attitude on them...

I'm ordering soon. First I thought stock. Then talked myself into the caddy lifters for the "insurance" factor. I'm not so sure. Morels are expensive.
