Default how can I tell the difference between a 5.3 and a 4.8

just what the title states
how can I tell the difference without pulling the head or the oilpan
it came out of a 2007 chevy truck, the guy claims it is a 5.3 but the truck is long gone and no top cover on the engine
the heads have a 799 casting #

They are stamped on the front and rear of the block looks like this

4.8/
5.3

There should be a paint mark on top of the number, denoting which one it is, if its nasty greasy it may be gone/impossible to see

what about some casting number on the crank or something
the crank, at the rear where the flex plate was has 5.3X etched into it and I think it is a 5.3 but want to be sure before I spend $1000.00 on it

Pull the vin number off the back of the head. There is a different digit to differentiate between them.
