2000 C5 M6 DYNO RESULTS - Absolute 5.3L Stage-2 & G5X2
Here are my final #'s: (see my sig for my combo)
407.3rwhp 380.2rwtq
(low 80's temp & medium humidity)
A/F Ratio 13:1 across the board
DynoJet Dyno
I can't say that I'm disappointed with my final #'s, but I thought they would be higher based on what I have seen with very similar H/C packages. I did have to make 11 runs (with about 10 min inbetween runs) to get the tuning perfect, so I think heat soak might have hurt me a bit. I might run back this week and run it one more time just to see what happens.
After finally getting everything together and running Thursday night, downloading a pre-tune LS1Edit program to get it to idle and such, I took it for a 90 mile drive. The car feels so strong its scary. I can't believe how fast it revs up and at WOT it sounds like a NASCAR. I have to relearn how and when to shift all over again. At idle it has a mean lope that sounds so badass. I put my cats back on because it stunk so bad and it was way too loud and tinnny sounding. With my high flow cats it sounds much better at idle and at WOT.
Thanks to Jay @ AS, Lou @ LG and everyone else on this Forum for their help with my project. I found more useful info here than anywhere else to help me complete this project.
If anyone has any comments or suggestions please step in...

Those numbers do seem a little low. With that big of a cam , S2 heads, and all of the bolt-ons with a full dyno-tune I'm suprised you didn't pull at least 420-430rwhp. Were those numbers SAE corrected? Maybe elevation and heat-soak had something to do with it but I always thought LS1's liked running hot (to a point.) Were you running it back to back? What rpm did it peak at and where are you shifting?
Honestly though, 400+rwhp is a powerful street-car either way. Numbers don't always tell the whole truth and there are too many variables to list. If it feels like a beast then what difference does it make. Cheers- Mike W.

Are the numbers through the cats? Something does seem a little low, but every LS1 is different. As long as you are happy with it I wouldnt worry too much. The dyno you use could just read different than others as well.

Yeah.. I would think you should make ALOT more rwhp than I did with my little cam, no dyno tuning, and no ASP pulley? Did you auto tap the car to check for knock retard or anything?

Those numbers seem low to me, too. I know there's a Z28 with stock heads making 425 RWHP with the G5X-2.
But hey, if you're happy with the way it runs, nothing else really matters.

I didn't think you could compare an f-body to a y-body. Doesn't a Corvette lose more power through the IRS than the f-body does through it's rear? So wouldn't a Corvette make less power to the wheels with the same cam?

Y-body has dual exhaust, F-body has solid rear axle...with heads and cam I'd say they just cancel each other out (its at least close enough to not worry about the small differences in this case).

Something is not right! I'm making more HP with a little "Hammer" cam and TEA Heads. You should be up around 430 with that monster cam and Jay's heads.

Yes, my #'s are SAE corrected. I am running TR55 plugs and Lou said that I should go to TR6's because they are a little colder. I also had no knock retard at all. We used a Tech-2 to verify this. We are dicussing all of the variables and hopefully we'll come up with a solution to more power and tq. I will scan my final graph later in the week and post it here. Thanks for all of the input, I thought everyone else would agree that my #'s should be higher.

Damn, your numbers should be alot higher, Id be on the phone with Jay and Lou and be like was up. your running in the 13 a/f, weres your timing at? also why would you dyno it with cats. I would pull the cats first or do a run with open headers to see if there is a restriction there, you have flp's, they take 2 minutes to change from straight pipes to cats, run on the dyno and track without cats, and when you want to take your old lady out on the town and dont want her dress to stink like a 57 chevy put the cats back on

BergerMan - Our mods are pretty much identical with my numbers being 40rwhp/35tq more. I just don't get it.
As Lou mentioned, TR6s may help some. I'm running them gapped .038
Good luck...keep us posted, if you find something.

In my 4.10 geared Z28, I recently saw 443 RWHP and 408 RWTQ (corrected) with my LG installed/tuned LS6 headed G5X2 cammed car; though those numbers are through open headers... the muffler was choking it down to the kind of power levels that you're looking at. Dropped the muffler (4" Spintech), and the power levels instantly shot up significantly.
It seems that this cam likes to BREATHE, and if you have even a relatively small restriction in the exhaust, it'll choke it down in a hurry.

Bergerman- sorry to hear about your unfortune. it bothers and concerns me just as much as it does you. I am always here to help with any suggestions. I would like a copy of the graph so me and Jack at merkel racing engines can review it. there may be a clue that we see in the graph that can help out. I will do what ever I can to help resolve this, I know theres 40 hp some were in there, even if i have to fly to st.louie to find it. besides I can use the vaca

Vince- no, I don't (too much... ); but we wanted to make sure that the car was capable of producing the numbers (read: make sure that it wasn't an issue in the H/C setup somewhere), so we uncorked the exhaust. I'm in the process of having a different muffler installed that will (hopefully) allow the car to make power through the exhaust.
Sorry for semi-hijacking the thread... I'll shut up now.
