Ok i bought a LS6 short/blk 2004yr model per prev owner, who told me it has the early -different length head bolts. is there a easy way to verify this? or get out a depth checker and measure? just dont want to buy wrong length and find out the day i want to bolt it all up - I Hate days like that.

Just stick a piece of tie wire or coat hanger in the holes to see if they're the same depth.
