question about synthetic oil
ok i bought my car about 6 months ago, the guy put LT's on it and couldnt fit the dipstick. so he told me put 1 quart every 1,000 miles. he was running castrol syntec conventional i switched to mobil 1 synthetic and still have been adding a quart every 1,000 miles but its only been about 2000 so 2 quarts and my motor started clunking. could my car not be burning the better grade oil and actually have 8 quarts in it which could cause a noise? sorry for the long rant

the only thing you should do is go buy a new dipstick. Then drain the oil and change it. If for whatever retarded reason the stock one wont go back on, get a flexible generic one. If you do that, you are going to have check to see what level is normal (change oil, inspect dipstick level, make marks on new dipstick).

Wowsers, Thats probobly the most rediculous fix i've ever heard. I mean its not your fault that there's no dipstick but you really REALLY shouldn't be just dumping oil into a motor without checking the current level.

What kind of headers are these where the dip stick won't fit?? That begs the question.....if the dipstick isnt there, then the smart money says the dipstick tube isnt there. If the dipstick tube isnt there, whats plugging the hole where the dipstick tube was? Is that why you have to add a quart every 1000 miles?
If so.......well not to be nasty but sell the car, and buy a Chevette. Those I KNOW can run on no oil.

Sounds like a backyard/shade tree mechanic. If you over fill the motor with oil, you can end up causing the oil to foam up due to the crank slinging it around. Foam will not lubricate the parts very well. Obviously running the motor low on oil isn’t smart either, a quart or so might be fine, but no more. Must have not of felt like messing around with the dipstick, it should fit.

with pacesetters there is plenty room for the dipstick,it has to be removed for the install but drops right back into place when your done.. I would try to get a dipstick as soon as possible, even if you have to go to the dealership they arent to expensive..
LS1's are kinda expensive to guess how much oil you have in it..
Im not sure how much room you have with the starter on but if you drop the starter you can get to the dipstick tube hole real easy...
good luck

Step 1 : Goto Junkyard
Step 2 : Locate LS1 F-body
Step 3 : Buy a new ******* dipstick
