Default 405.5 RWHP 385.1 RWTQ Should I be expecting more?

I think I am crazy...but my car still doesnt feel that fast to me. It feels like I am leaving some power on the table somewhere. I have a stock throttle body and MAF, but I've heard so many horror stories about porting those two I havent had it done yet. I also have cats, but I do not like the sound of the car witout them, so I plan on keeping them.

My HP peak is a little under 6200 RPM with my setup, doesnt that seem like its cutting off a little early? For reference, here is my dynosheet:

http://www.metalreviewcentre.com/images/dynosheet.jpg

Maybe Im just expecting too much, but it seems like all these other guys are running 400+ RWHP with stock heads and I have stage 2 heads and a 228/224 cam, if any of you had my car, what changes would you make to the setup? I want to remain naturally aspirated, so no power adders or nitrous.

What would it take to get me to 450 RWHP apart from starting all over again?

lol.. it's never enough bro. we all want more. sometimes it takes a ride in a top fuel car to settle yourself down, and even then the guys that drive em, probably still want to go faster. get used to it, or get ready to spend alot of money.

I think the dyno record at www.ls1speed.com where I think you dynoed your car Mike, is like 425rwhp for A4/h/c but that was also with the experimental sheet metal intake from MI.

Realistically I think that 420rwhp is doable but you'd have to get a ported TB, I'd keep the stock MAF, run a short belt to hit a bigger number.

I went 11.75 with 350rwhp unlocked and 375rwhp locked (112 mph vs 114mph)... Car sure felt a lot faster to me. When I made 420rwhp initially in my stroker I went 11.3@120mph.

you are right on target. For one, you are running cats. that 10 at the wheels right there. A ported Tb will help you pick up a few horses. I assume you have had a good tune?

You are also an A4. A4's will always dyno lower than M6's given the same mods. The guys you see running around with 400+hp on stock heads have 6-spds.

If you have gears, that can also take some power away.

dont worry bro, your up there. What are the rest of the specs on the cam? whats the lift and LSA?...never mind i read you sig

First, realize you are in IL. and know that no car NA with the stock bottom end has dynoed at 450HP to the wheels on any of the dyno's around here... (I'm in Palatine.) Secondly, I would make sure the rest of your intake setup is good (TSP lid, descreened MAF, smooth bellows, Bauer TB) then I'd have a look at that exhaust which I think is hurting you. I'd definately scrap the cats in favor of ORP's and replace the loudmouth with something like a 3.5"-4" Mufflex, or true duals (Speed Inc. can do them) or atleast a Magnaflow or something. All of those exhausts will sound very good on a cammed car with LT's and and no cats. True duals dumped before the axle would most likely be the best for max HP. If you want to see more #'s on the dyno then an aluminum flywheel and CF driveshaft may give you a few....

I figure this will get you somewhere around 420-425ish on the Speed Inc. dyno or so..... then if you want to stab for like 440+ or so I think you're going to have to pull that cam and go bigger. Atleast a 230+ duration or so....... maybe try Thunders new TR236 cam when it comes out since you like reverse splits as it seems, or maybe a TSP 231, G5X2 or something like that. I think you'd be right around where you want to be at that point although you may lose some driveability with the big cam. But hey, you gotta make sacrifices.......

JF, Wes aka Chicago Z06 put down 450rwhp/400tq with his 02 Z06, GTP LS6 heads and the G5X2 (114 lsa). The LS1 M6 record is around 425rwhp or so, either I8Cobra or MBC Racing.

450rwhp in an A4 would be hard, and IMO it's not very attainable.

Yeah, listen to John here..... I talked to a kid who dynoed 401RWHP on his car at Speed Inc. and it ran an 11.1.... although I think it had some weight reduction.

Unless the huge dyno numbers you see are at the dyno you use, I wouldnt worry about it.

The highest dynoing heads/cam car I've ever seen at my dyno was 424rwhp and that was a 2002 Z06 with heads (ls6) and cam from MTI, no cats, no mufflers.

You have an A4 with over 400rwhp and cats. Call it a day and go enjoy the car.

Not great but not bad...

What do your heads flow at? Who did your tuning? is it LS1 Edit tuning? Did they tune with wideband O2 in the header pipe?

John, I thought Wes put down 445....... that's what he said in his post a week ago or so I thought...

Here is what I think you should do. You said the run was through full exhaust.

Cutout, get rid of your cats, ported tb, short belt, lock the converter on the dyno.

I would be happy with those numbers. But you are in the ballpark.

445 right I stand corrected.

All the numbers I am quoting are from the same dyno.

Mike I hold the NA record on that Speed Inc. dyno, 475rwhp (locked)/ 505rwtq. That was thru dual exhaust with Borla XR1 mufflers. BradWS6 did 463rwhp with a 370ci SR and dual exhaust. GreggerSS did 469rwhp with a 422ci ARE motor too. I don't see how a 346ci will do within 20rwhp of my old setup or Gregger's current setup. Sure the big cube stuff would hit 500rwhp with a better intake, they are choked a bit, so again I can envision you hitting 420-425rwhp with no cats, ported TB, and probably a cutout.

Well, If my car was set up different I might of had a chance of getting real close cause I put down 437RWHP 411RWTQ there like 2/3 weeks ago with a 12 bolt with 4.30's, full exhaust y-pipe through magnaflow catback, HD steel nitrous DS, a crappy SLP airlid and on a very hot (prob. close to 100 degrees inside the shop) day. If I had a stock 10 bolt, aluminum DS and exhaust open at the Y I feel pretty confident I would have bested Wes's #'s...... oh well. I have a M6 with stage II LS6 heads and a custom comp 230+ duration cam. I wonder how my car would have done with that sheetmetal intake you were testing....

So anyway, I think he could get within 15RWHP but he'd have to change some stuff around and go with a relatively large cam to make it happen... atleast on the Speed Inc. dyno.....

I put down 404/424 in an A4 with the mods in my sig. Once I port my heads, maybe a bigger cam, add a pulley, short belt, duals, and cold temps, in theory I should be 430 or more. What's the n/a 346 record for an A4?

who cares what your car dynoes what does it run at the track??!!

My goal is 400 to the wheels too and I don't think it will take that much to get there.

THe fact that your car makes most of its power under 6200 makes it a great street machine.
Yea you could go bigger cam but there goes your low end power.

Want more power, go forced induction or 100 shot of nitrous.

JF I dynoed with a ford 9" with 4.11 gears on 28" slicks think that might have affected my numbers?

JF sounds like you are holding the LS1 M6 dyno record at Speed Inc, nice numbers.
