Default Light rust on cylinder walls

I've had the heads off my iron block for a couple months. I noticed last night that there is a little bit of light surface rust on the cylinder walls. I took some motor oil and smeared on them. Will this be ok to put back together like this? I turned the motor over by hand and everything was smooth.

I would say as long as the rust isnt severe then you will be fine, especially since you can still turn the motor over by hand. It will clean itself out in a very short time once you start it up.

Bare metal will rust quick but it should be ok. Clean it up as much as possible before putting the heads on and you should be good.

Yea thats completely normal. The blocks are very poreous. Spray WD40 on the walls and before you assemble just clean em up good.

Get the light gray scotchbrite and use with WD40 in a circular pattern (not up and down) to remove the rust.

As long as it's just light surface rust it will be ok. I've had this happen before with an older sbc and it didn't cause any problems.
