I run Patriot 243s. Love 'em, no issues what so ever, love the price.

Because this is my thinking correct me if im wrong.

With the differnce in price from the high end heads I can get a set of say texas speed heads AND a fast 90/90 set up for roughly the same cost

Go with the AFR's. Budget heads will not compete. You can always add the 90/90 later. Midrange gains & tip in response are a lot greater with the AFR's. I have seen cars gain little to nothing with budget heads. With AFR's I gained 45rwhp & 35rwtq.

I just love responding to a question like this.

My advice for you and others, is go ahead with the budget heads.

Why? It'll keep you at more of a disadvantage over myself and others running the AFR heads.

Okay now my flame suit is on - go ahead, bash me all you like. But when someone else pulls up next to me on the street, I dont worry about a thing!

I'll secound that you cant beat the price and I did alot of reserch and had others reserch for me to make my decision.
Also I did the intake and TB for the price of those heads alone.
I ran a 12.005 on cam only though and thats better than guys with thier bigger cam and AFR heads , So what I'm saying is just because you have the higher dollar parts on your car it dosen't mean its right for your set up.

Head characteristics:

1) Cheap
2) Durable
3) Fast

Pick two.

I"m running a set of 5.3 heads worked over by Bo White. they are port/polished & milled .018" with the bigger car valves in them. I love my combo.

Default which heads

if its street only , nothing too serious why not go with Tx speed or Patriots? they will work good with that cam- now considered mild but good all around cam add the intake if you want. Why break the bank if your not thrashing it at the track with a huge cam. Its all about torque on the street let those guys have their braggin rights I got other things I want for my car. a good matched set of parts will beat those mismatched setups with their huge cams .I will be running a almost identical setup as you! and dont feel like you whimped out CNC 243's arent bad.

I'm good with my choice of heads. If people are getting little to no gain when adding "budget heads" (totally subjective term) then I would have to believe that their cars are not optimized or are seriously mismatched. Look what people like Patrick G do with cams. There is a whole lot to be said about a good total system. My car did make significantally better power with my heads. Basically, the money I saved on my heads is over 1/3 needed to reach my target of a Procharger. Then my $325 LS6 intake, BBK tb don't matter so much and I can upgrade them as possible while still makig 500+ rwhp....Not being afraid of a set of AFRs, which are better heads. Just do what you can when you can and feel good about it.

I'd go with PRC LS6 Stg 2.5 heads and mill them to 59cc for more compresstion

My friend gained 35rwhp WITH PRC STG 1 LS6 HEADS and you cant beat the price too
if you want something cheaper then go with PRC Stg 2.5 5.3 awesome too.
