Just curious.. did you ever find the answer on this? I'd like to start on my shortblock assembly, and I'm not getting an answer at diamond's 1-877-552-2112 phone.. Do they have a different #?
Thnaks,
Bryan

Thanks! Just curious.. what did you set your gaps at? I'm planning on doing .016 top .018 2nd and .015-.060 oil per diamonds recommendation..

Thats eactly what mine are and it runs good! The oil scrapers shouldnt need touched since its a big span for clearence. The oil rail support doesnt get touched (the wavy one)

Just be easy. The first ring is hard, but the second is soft and files VERY fast.. File a little and check ALOT!!!

Be sure to deburr all edges after grinding gaps, keep gaps parallel, also be sure to square ring in bore when testing gaps. A good rule of thumb on which way rings go on piston is inside chamfer on top ring goes up and inside chamfer faces down on second ring. When funneling pistons into bore, dont slam piston in with piston hammer, its better to spiral piston in with pressure on outside of piston crown and thread your way around bore to get rings compressed with out chipping them.Ashless 10 weieght oil like Childs and Alberts assembly oil is best for cylinder lube .Dont break rings in with Synthetic oil either use conventional.

well, crap.. I just got done file fitting and carefully deburring all rings.. perfect... then I went to put in the first piston. The 2nd ring has a very fine lip.. I cracked a chunk off. I'm not so sure I want to try to spiral them in. The problem is, there don't seem to be any readily available ring compressors for the 3.89 bore. I guess I'll special order one from ARP(they have a 3.9" for $50 or so..) and try to get a new 2nd ring from diamond..

I was talking about using compressible type ring compressor,(plier style) while driving piston in stages instead of one hard blow to get it in, my method allows for clean use of chamfer at top of bore to guide rings in with no damage.

My pistons went in VERY easy, practically slid themselves in. I used a tapered compressor from HERE.

Ill tell you what, its the best damn thing I bought for the motor and Ill never use a different kind. All the other ones Ive used are a major PITA!!
