Default LS1 5.7 liter instead of 305 in firebird

Hello
Does LS1 5.7 fit to 1985 Pontiac Firebird with five speed manual transmission instead of 305 (5.0 liter). LS1 is from 1999 year Corvette. Question is can I bolt my old transmission to it and does my flywheel fit. I don't want to throw a way money if it does not fit.
Thanks.

It will fit size wise. A small block is a small block is a small block. My guess is that the transmission would need an adaptor plate of some sort, just thinking off the cuff. Not sure on the flywheel. What you need to concern yourself with is that if you are going to keep the FI on the LS1, you will need integrate the PCM into the 85 Brid and tie in all the sensors, most of which they did not have in 1985. At that point, I myself would just go carbed with the LS1 and forget it.

LS1>>>>>>>>305 I would do it no matter what. If people can make a hemi fit in a PT cruiser then you should be able to do it.
