Default Main bearing clearance

Is .003 main bearing to loose on a ls1 race motor? Will it be able to drove on the street at all? Also will you be able to use normal synthetic oil 5w30? The motor is going in a 69 backhalfed camaro but the owner wants to drive it on the street for one of those street car shoot out things where you have to drive "x" amount of miles.

That is a little loose for a iron block and really loose for a aluminum block. My best advice would be to tighten it up.

Yeah, as 427 said, It's a little loose. Mine are right at .0023-.0025 on my rebuild that I'm currently in the process of working on. Grab a set of .001 oversized. That'll put you right back where you need to be! Also, if you leave it there you'll notice a little lower oil pressure due to the looser clearance tolerance.
