Default LT1 oil pressure fluxuates

I have a buddy of mine who has an 96 LT1 Formula, and the oil pressure fluctuates about 5-8 pounds when at idle. When it gets up to about 1600RPM, the oil pressure seems to go back to normal. I dont have too much experience with the LT1's so I was curious. My LS1 didnt fluctuate. The pressure went down a little at idle, but it didnt fluctuate. I just wanted to konw if the pump was about to go out or if that is normal.

Unless the sensor is bad the oil psi should be nice and steady, I have killed bearings before. It can be a sign of that.

My LT1 has a 151k on it and mine idles around 30psi and cruises around 40psi. Mine doesnt visibly fluctuate but based on temperature i can see a difference of +-5psi. My LT1 sees 6krpm daily too. My LS1 makes 55psi just cranking over for comparison lmao.

Tell your buddy to change his oil filter and switch to like a 10w 40 oil and see if that helps any. That's what i did.

We live in a warmer climate, so the thicker oil isnt normally run. Normally we run 5W-30 here. But I will tell him to change the oil. It was just weird to see it fluctuate. At least the 30psi at idle is normal. It just bounces around and it concerned me.

I had some synthetic in mine when i first got the LT1 (a few months ago) and it hadnt been changed in a while. Over a week i watched the oil pressure drop down to about 18psi at idle and 30psi crusiing so i changed the oil and filter and upped it to 10x40 dino oil (just to flush out the old oil) Got great psi now (for an lt1 atleast). The thicker oil works better in warmer climates actually.

OK. I have no idea on when his last oil change was, nor what type of oil that he is running. Maybe I will do him a favor and change it for him. Thanks for the help guys.
