Default What would cause chipping of the int. valve seats pics.

I pulled the heads the other day to have them freshened up with new valves and springs and noticed all the intake valve seats were chipped only on the lower side ,but the seat are tight , there looks like on the outer rim of the seat there is a bronze ring that's were it started chipping .These are 2.100" int.valves

Yeh, that looks like damage from the valves floating. Obviously, this would result from bad springs, **** gas or both.

Are these on all holes or just a few? Looks like you need new seats, new springs, better gas and a tune.

That blows.

I've already order new seats and yes its on all the intake seat but not the exhaust , And the spring are bad, that's why i have the heads off to change the springs and valves and check the seats and guides , I have a perfect tune in semi OL-SD. With no spark knock at all and i run only 93oct. fuel. And plus i have 2.100 valve with comp pro mag. rocker arms. I'm going to put back my stock rocker arms to reduce the weight on the valve springs hopping that will help stop the valve float.

I went with the massive double REV springs, Terra Yeller roller rockers, hardened pushrods, new lifters, etc. This motor has stayed together for 25K and 6 years now!

The beehive springs are more technically advanced but you can't beat stout massive doubles for avoiding valve float.

One of the intake runners in the picture above looks like it is cracked, so double check that too.

Deff looks like valve float, but I wouldn't go back to stock rockers to band aid the issue, get better springs or lighter valves.

I run the PRC 660 Duel spring, my cam is a250/266-.651 lift . This motor is a LS2 418cid. and it runs fine ,The heads a Dart Pro1 cnc 255cc runner. with Rev. 2.100 int & 1.60 exh. valves. With Comp hardened push rods, Comp Pro Mag. roller rockers, I have been waiting on some body to see the (Hair) laying in the runner and thinking it was a crack. I thought the same thing when i took the picture and went back and it was a hair lol...
