Default 383 package with MTI S2 LS1 Heads/X1 Cam?

There a local guy around here that wants to sell me an LS6 Block with JE pistons, rings, Head Gaskets, wirings, and other goodies. Hes asking $4000 for everything. Is this a fair deal?

He says my MTI S2 Heads and X1 Cam will do just fine for the 383 package.

Im wondering if thats too pricey or not. A local shop did all the machining.

What do you think? Is it a good price and will my heads/cam do the job??

If it's actually a 383, it's more than likely a stroker motor. What kind of crank and rods are in it?

If its a stroker motor, which it should be if its a 383, then GO FOR IT! Did you see it running in the car though? is everything ok with it as far as you know?

It is a Stroker.

Yay or Nay?

It is priced right. I paid $3350 for my Lunati Kit. The setup he is showing is cheaper by a few hundred. I paid $100 to have the cylinder walls cross hatched. Add the price of the block and the ARP head studs and you are around $4000. Let's put it this way, he isn't losing any money. Does it have a timing chain or oil pump?

if the pistons are not dished with a 383 stroker you will be running very high compression which may not be pump gas friendly....check this before you plunge in...

I just completed my Lunati 382 Stroker. And i have Stage 2 heads with simular flow numbers to MTI's stg 2's but mine have 2.02 1.57 Valves vs. 2.055 1.60 that MTI's come with. I also have a LS6 intake and a MTI X1 on a 112 LSA. Ive only put about 125 miles on it last night and im amazed!

I will have dyno number soon!

GO FOR IT!

The X1 is gonna be too small for that motor...it's going to idle like a stock car. Heck the G5x2 is a bigger cam that is making a tad more hp on stock CID motors...I could only imagine an R1/G5x3 or so type cam would better suite the 382 motor. I know if I upped my displacement I'd be in the 236/244 type cam range for a 382 motor. My 346 idles like its got a 220/220 cam in there even though its got the X1...

The X1 is a GREAT cam, but for a bigger displacement motor I would opt for more cam...I know I'm REALLY thinking of swapping my X1 for the R1 cause the G5x2 is a similar cam and is making great numbers on stock cid motors.
