Your opinions on the Patriot 226/226 112+2
Your help is greatly appreciated here. I'm a newbie to cams, but from all the reading and searching, I'm looking at the 226/226 112+2 cam from Patriot.
Have any of you had experience with this cam on a daily driver?
Also, Patriot recommends using their Gold Spring kit, but I'd rather re-use the stock retainers and go with the Comp 918's. Is this a good idea since the max lift on the Patriot's are 0.650 as opposed to Comp's 0.600?
And finally, is it absolutely necessary to swap the chain and the oil pump on an 01'? or is it another of the "you might as well since you're already in there" deals?
Thanks,

You'll want to go with a timing chain. The stock oil pump should be just fine. You'll also need to upgrade your valvetrain to prep for the cam swap.
Question: Why are you looking at the Patriot Cam? Are you looking for a head/cam package from Patriot? I just got the patriot heads for my '01 Z28, but am going with a comp cam. I was looking at the two Patriot cams, the 226/226 and the 225/229. Both have good cam specs, but I don't know anyone running either of the two. If you are leaving stock heads, I wouldn't go with either due to the lift specs on these cams. You looking for DD or Strip?

Cool, I already have the ported LS6 pump, I need to find the LS2 chain. Thanks
I'm trying to find a cam for a DD, hardly ever sees the track. So far I'm reading on the 226/226 112+2 from Patriot and the 224/224 114 from Thunder. What would you recommend for the stock heads?

the patriot 226/226 is a good stout cam. from what i hear the cam actually sounds alot bigger than what it is. also look up a guy named GT GRILLER. hes running that cam and loves the heck out that cam. i think he even had a vid of him pulling on a MS4 cam on the street...

Either of those two cams seem good for your application. A lot of people like the TR224. I would look at it on the 112 LSA, especially if your M6...Give you that nice lopey idle. Both cams are pretty similiar in specs if I remember correctly. The patriot has a little more intake/exhaust lift...
Again, you'll be happy with either. I went with the XR-275HR-12 from Comp Cams. Specs are smaller than those two cams, it's a 222-224, with lift in the .56x's. Mine is a DD and I am getting the head swap too. Won't be able to play with it until next week though. Cam got shipped on wrong truck

Thanks everyone. I'm a newbie to cams, so I want to start with something relatively common in our cars just in case I need to ask you for advice.
Domingo you have a PM.

A cam you may want to look at is a Comp 224/230 too.. . I got mine just a few months ago and I am very happy with it. I just took it to the track last friday and ran a 7.72. I got the cam on a 114, nice lopey idle but it has very good DD qualities. I dont drive mine everyday, but there is no reason I couldn't either.

Suck my ***** Jake, u know u like it........Yea i really love this cam, its a great daily driver and it sounds alot bigger than it is....Ive got a few videos of a couple of runs ive made with it....Its easy on ur valvetrain and runs like a champ....PM me if u wanna see the videos.....Alot people shy away from my results cause of the low HP numbers i put down, but in a automatic dyno numbers dont mean ****, especially when the dyno tune was done on a piece of **** fuddle converter.......I think my race results and track time improvements speak for them self.

Nice vids Griller, what valvespring setup are you running?
I'm on an M6, so I pressume my numbers might be a little higher than yours on a 3600 converter.
Like you said, it's all in the track times.
