Default cam swap oil pump ?

were doing a cam and head swap on a friends 00 camaro and i was wondering if there was a way to change the oil pump while the engine was in the car. we want to drop the motor but we cant find someone with a lift and if we pull it through the top we have to take the heads off anyway. thanks for any help guys.

the oil pump is on the front of the engine behind the front cover, not in the oil pan. youll have to drop the pan down about 1/2" to get the oil pump tube bolt out, but that can all be done in the car.

It sits right around the snout of the crank. like 99ssleeper said, drop the pan down a little so you can unbolt that pickup tube bolt, then just unbolt the pump and slide it off. It's easy while you're in there and definitely a worthwhile upgrade in my opinion during a cam swap.

ls1howto.com is your friend all day....its down right now though or I would give you a direct link to cam swap/oil pump swap info. Pretty much take off front timing cover and its right there at the bottom. It slides onto the rod that your crank/harmonic balancer bolt goes into. You do indeed have to drop the oilpan a bit to get the 9mm bolt off the oil pickup tube. Be careful to not drop anything in the oilpan like a bolt or you will need a pen magnet and some luck.
