Default Head install / Gasket question...

When installing heads, should a gasket maker be used to help make the seal? The reason I ask is my brother uses Permatex "Copper Spray-A-Gasket" on the head gaskets on his quad motors to help create the seal. I understand that our motors are nothing like a quad motor, but just thought I'd ask anyway.

If I remember correctly, our radiator fluid in our LS1/LS6 motors causes a chemical reaction when copper touches is, so using this particular spray wouldn't be a good idea. But something similar might could be used.

Anyone used any spray on their gaskets to help seal?

I don't think you need (or should) use any gasket maker on the heads...just stick with the gasket by itself.

Gasket only. If it were a copper or steel shim gasket you could spray it with the copper coat.

i've done it w/ my iron motor. no problems with the head gaskets yet. i pulled the 3 pc copper gaskets apart and sprayed them w/ copper coat. about 2 months run time so far, and not a single coolant problem either.
