What does a broken valve spring sound like?
Whats a typical sound you hear from a broken valve spring???
My car started a loud tapping noise (not like a bearing or like a exhaust leak, like a solid taptaptap that follows the motor) The car is down on a power a little but im not exactly sure. Also the engine is having a hard time idling, it will hunt up and down heavily and wont stay running unless i give it a little throttle, I had to turn the idle up to 900-1000 so it would idle on its own. I have new blue stripe 918's on the motor.
What was everyone elses signs of a broken intake spring??? The car is a big converter auto so its hard to feel if its missing. I left two plug wires off one time and you couldnt tell the car was missing other than the missing power...

My ses light is always on because my ls1 convserion in my older corvette hasnt had all the codes deleted...
Im thinking its an intake valve. argh. I need to just yank the rockers and check the pushrods..

Re: What does a broken valve spring sound like?
At idle it will most likely sound fine. When you drive it "normally" it will sound like you have an exhaust leak ("tick") and will sputter and hesitate. If you floor it it will backfire and sould horrible.
This is all of course, if it is an exhaust valve. I had to change one last weekend. Never had a broken intake valve though.
