Default How do I get this perfect sound?

I've been trying to nail down my cam and I finally found the perfect example of what I want on LS1sounds.com But in the caption, all it says is "Custom "mid-size" cam, idle & rev" What size cam is this? Does anyone know this person. That's exactly what I want. Thanks for any help everyone. I need your expert guesses.

kind of a stupid question... but why are you basing your cam choice over the sound it makes?

some of it is in the tuning, some of it is in the LSA choice, and a good portion of it is just the size of the cam overall... not to mention the heads, different types of exhaust, etc.

that guy is running a GMMG with Cats... that's going to sound different than mine by far, running a GMMG with no Cats. He's also got the GMMG Oval tips, which tend to resonate slightly more than regular sized tips.

all my vid clips after the cam was installed

the sound changed noticably with the tuning done to it after the cam though, first fire up on the cam was a much harsher louder exhaust note, after the tuning, it mellowed out quite a bit, and after a retune recent it even quieted it down another notch, at least to me

Default Different strokes for different folks

I have this vision of the car I want to build and that's the sound I want it to have. I figure I'm going to post significant power gains with most medium cams in the first place so if it has the perfect sound, then right on.

So if I'm running cats, with Jet-Hot LTs, what kind of Cam will give me this lope and sound? I was already planning to run cats and jet hots so it works out for me that this guy is running something similar.

If sound is all you are after, put a big *** stereo in the car and then just play that exhaust on a constant loop and make yourself happy.

And I hate to break it to you, but most of the time, what a car sounds like on the internet isn't even close to what it sounds like in person. So don't base everything you want to do with your car solely on the sound you heard on the internet. Actually hang out with other people and listen to their car in person. Also, what it sounds like from behind might be dramatically different than what it sounds like from the driver's seat.

Plus another big thing that effects sound in your dynamic compression ratio. So two guys may have the same cam, headers, ypipe, and catback but sound different because the one is at stock compression and the other is a full point higher.

I believe how a car sounds is almost every bit as important as how much power it makes, how it drives, and how it looks.

My cam with open headers. I will be running an x pipe with the same GMMG style mufflers with it. Will sound pretty rediculous. MY 01 Z06 had Kooks LTs, X pipe, and GMMG style mufflers with Borla 4" straight pipe tips. It sounded similar to a Ferrari IMO. Car also made 465rwhp and that was about 3 years ago.

GMMG style mufflers are sold as Sweet Thunder mufflers. Their website is http://sweet-thunder.com/

Cam LSA affects lope
Cam duration affects lope
Cam lift GREATLY affects the loudness of the lope.

Shawn, Dutinsss, thanks for the support. Sometimes people forget that theirs isn't the only opinion on how to set up a car. I wish I could listen to some setups in person, but there aren't a whole lot of LS1s in the Middle East yet. Just trying to figure out where to start when I get home.
