Cool Just finished MTI X1 cam swap!!

Man, that was rough! My first time tearing apart a motor by myself. It was fun, but I am glad that I am done. By the way, the oil pickup tube sucks! I installed a MTI X1 cam with Patriot Golds, Melling oil pump, LS2 chain, Powerbond 25%, and hardened pushrods. I also bought a Katech anodized adjustable belt tensioner. It is awesome, I highly recommend it. I am waiting for a quick "safe" tune before I fire it up, but when I do I will update and post a clip.

If you're not familiar with the X1 the specs are 230/227 .591"/.571" 112LSA
Thanks for reading,
Chris-

I love my X1 cam. It won't hurt anything to start it up and let it run with the stock tune. Matter of fact a buddy of mine has been running his X1 cam/2E head combo with a stock tune for a year. I personally wouldn't run it WOT till the tune though.

OP- I was wondering if you had an idea of what sort of numbers you are expecting with your setup. I am lean towards a setup almost excatly like yours. I even have a 1998 t/a. thanks

Congrats on the install. I've only done 2 cam swaps (1 on my LT1 Z28 then 1 on my '99 T/A) and I was very happy after being done with the first one. It's a big accomplishment to successfully finish that and then fire it up for the first time. The LS1 was so much easier since you don't have to take the intake off! I can't wait until I've got the funds to swap one in my Z06!

If you didn't have to change the valve springs there wouldn't be anything to it. Changing springs sucks.
Just so you know. It won't hurt anything to start it up or drive it around even. Just don't go WOT and you'll be fine.

That's weird, mine drove like stock for the couple of days I had to drive it before the tune.

Not good.... My oil pan is leaking and the car seems to have loud valvetrain noise. I've researched the **** out of this since yesterday. The rockers were torqued to 22ft lbs. It's the typical tick tick sound that you read about in every post. I wish things would just work for me! So I'm going to check the spark plugs, boots, and pray that fixes it. The local LS1 mechanic even said it was louder than normal. We'll see...

Did you rotate the engine 180* and re-torque the rocker arms? Also if you tightened the top timing cover bolts then torqued down the bottom two oil pan/timing cover bolts you could have cracked the pan. You have to make sure the timing cover is lined up first. Let's hope that's not the case....

another thing is to make sure the timing cover gasket is not backwards. it will bolt up backwards(ask me how i know), and the round part of the gasket will be visible(stick out) on the passenger side. happened to me when i did my first lsx cam and it would leak when i hammered on it, but not at idle.
